Add a Trupeer test script to Jira Xray

In Trupeer, open the recorded test you want to use.

  1. Copy the generated steps and expected results from the Trupeer guide.

  2. In Jira, create a new Xray Test issue with the Manual test type, or open an existing one.

  3. Add each step to the test's steps, with the action, data and expected result.

  4. Click Share in Trupeer, copy the link to the walkthrough video, and add it to the Test issue description.

The test script and its walkthrough will be available to every tester who runs the test in Xray.

Refer to How do I publish my video? for details on enabling sharing in Trupeer.

Turn recordings into Jira Xray test scripts: record a test once in Trupeer, then use the generated steps and expected results as a manual test in Xray, with the walkthrough video linked for every tester.

Writing manual test scripts in Xray is slow. Analysts write each step from requirements, testers interpret vague actions differently, and the screens in the script don't match the build that's actually under test. Trupeer flips the order: a tester or key user records the scenario in the real application, and Trupeer turns the recording into numbered steps with screenshots, ready to become an Xray manual test. The recording stays linked, so anyone running the test can watch exactly how it should be done.

How Trupeer and Jira Xray work together

In Trupeer

In Jira Xray

Record the test scenario once in the application

Create a Test issue of the Manual type

Get numbered steps, screenshots and expected results

Add the steps as the test's action, data and expected result

Share a link to the walkthrough video

Add the link to the Test issue, so testers can watch the run

Record test runs as evidence

Attach the link or file to the test run as evidence

Update a single step when the application changes

Update the matching step in the Xray test

How to create Jira Xray test scripts from recordings

  1. Record the scenario once in the application under test, narrating each action and the expected result.

  2. Review the steps in Trupeer, adding test data, preconditions and expected results where the recording didn't make them clear.

  3. Create the Xray test: add a Test issue with the Manual type, and enter the steps, data and expected results.

  4. For many tests at once, export the steps and use Xray's test case importer to bring them in from a CSV file, mapping action, data and expected result columns.

  5. Link the walkthrough in the Test issue, and organise tests into Test Sets and Test Plans as usual.

  6. Run and record evidence: testers can record their own run in Trupeer and attach the link to the Xray test run.

For the full structure of a UAT script, including preconditions, test data and sign-off, see the UAT test script template.

Why build Xray test scripts from recordings?

  • Steps match the real application, because they're captured from the build, not written from requirements.

  • Testers interpret steps the same way, with screenshots and a video for every scenario.

  • Business users can run UAT tests without technical knowledge of the application.

  • Evidence is easy to capture, with a recording linked to each test run.

  • Regression tests stay current, because you update only the steps that change.

  • The same recordings become training, so end users learn from the scenarios that were tested.

Using recordings as Xray test evidence

Auditors and business owners often want proof of how a requirement was tested, not just a pass status. A short recording of the test run, linked from the Xray test execution, shows exactly what was done and what happened. When a test fails, the recording shows developers the precise step where it went wrong, which saves time reproducing the defect.

For what to capture across a whole test phase, see the UAT documentation checklist.

Tracing Xray tests to requirements

Xray links tests to Jira requirements so you can see coverage. Pair that with a traceability matrix that also connects each requirement to its SOP, runbook and training, so the whole chain from requirement to operations is visible; use the requirements traceability matrix template.

Who uses Trupeer with Jira Xray?

  • QA and test leads standardising manual test scripts across testers.

  • Business analysts turning scenarios into tests quickly.

  • UAT coordinators helping business users run tests and capture evidence.

  • ERP, CRM and SaaS implementation teams validating many scenarios before go-live.

  • Quality and audit teams who need evidence of how requirements were tested.

For how Trupeer turns a single recording into a UAT script and evidence, see the UAT test script generator.

Proof: documentation built from recordings at scale

Genpact used Trupeer for a company-wide Workday rollout, turning recorded process sessions into more than 500 training collaterals across 20 workstreams in five languages, for 140,000 employees in 40 countries, in 3 months instead of 12. Read the Genpact customer story.

FAQs

Can I create Jira Xray test scripts from a recording?

Yes. Record the scenario in Trupeer, use the generated steps and expected results as an Xray manual test, and link the walkthrough video in the Test issue.

Can I import many tests into Xray at once?

Yes. Export the steps from Trupeer and use Xray's test case importer to bring tests in from a CSV file, mapping the action, data and expected result columns.

Can recordings be used as Xray test evidence?

Yes. Record the test run in Trupeer and add the link or exported file to the Xray test run, so reviewers can see exactly what was tested.

What happens when the application changes?

Update only the affected steps in Trupeer by editing the script or replacing a single step, then update the matching steps in the Xray test.

Does this work for UAT as well as QA testing?

Yes. Business users find recorded walkthroughs easier to follow than text-only steps, which makes them well suited to user acceptance testing.

Is there a native Trupeer connector for Jira Xray?

Trupeer works alongside Xray: you bring steps into Xray manually or through Xray's CSV importer, and link the walkthrough and evidence from Trupeer.
